Waking up with a smile on your face and a warm sensation in your heart isn't always familiar, but when that very feeling is familiar, it's love.
My Valentine's Day experiences have always been disasterous. I eventually started to become like Jessica Biel's character in the new movie Valentine's Day. I was that one that wanted to throw the "I Hate Valentine's Day" parties. One year, I thought a nice gift to a former boyfriend would be to take him out to dinner. Of course, I told him "get whatever you want sweetheart! This day is for you!" He took that a little too literal and my bill ended up being $126.78 so two people. My end of the bill was $16.99 for the shrimp dish and $2.99 for my tea. Next he took me to see Friday the 13th. If you have not seen the most recent Friday the 13th, I would advise you not too. Highly unenjoyable, especially on a 'romantic' evening such as this. Another year, I planned out this amazing day. I had purchased tickets to a theme park and made dinner reservations and everything. It was 10 minutes past 7pm and I was wondering where he was. Then 30 minutes, then 2 hours. Then he finally called to say he got caught up playing golf with his buddies and that he could not make it tonight. That was the last straw. No more believing in romance for me.
Then, the current man I am with told me he had plans for me on Valentine's Day. Immediately, this got my attention because for once in my life, a man planned Valentine's Day and not me? I started asking questions but he just would not budge.
Before I know it, it's Saturday morning and of course, Valentine's Day. I wake up with a smile on my face and a warm sensation in my heart. A feeling I have now gotten used to but today was different. Today, I was excited.
It was now 4pm and I was anxious to get ready. He told me to wear something really nice because we would be going to the most elegant resturant he could find. I took a shower, did my hair and make-up and chose 2 outfits to dance around looking in the mirror with. The first outfit was cute but not fancy, the second outfit, disaster. I had a breakdown. with 30 minutes left before his arrival, I had NOTHING to wear. My best friend ran over, made me get in the car, and took me straight to the mall, thank God it's close. I found the perfect dress and got back home with 2 minutes left. As the door knocked, I was zipping up my dress and my friend ran to answer it. As I walked out into the living room, his jaw dropped and he gave me that look that said "wow".
"Are you ready to go?"
Of course I was. We walked outside and he opened the car door for me, watched me get in, and closed it. The reached for my hand as he always does when he is driving.
I noticed we were going to his house so curiously, I asked why.
"I just need to get something. Will you come in with me? I may be a while."
I did not think anything of it until he told me to close my eyes when we got to the front door. I closed them and he led me into the house and told me to keep my eyes shut. I heard noises and clicking and finally, he was behind me.
His whispered "You can open" into my ear.
When I opened my eyes, he was holding a rose out infront of me and the whole house was only lit by candles. I was shocked. He kissed my forehead and took my hand to lead me to the kitchen. There it was. The romance of a lifetime.
The kitchen table was decorated with a beautiful white, silk table cloth. The table itself was covered in rose petals, and there was a bottle of sparkling cider because I am not too much a fan of wine. I looked over at him speechless as he held my chair out for me.
"I am going to make you dinner"
I immediately felt my cheeks turn red. As he prepared dinner, I sat looking at him in amazement.
After a wonderful dinner, he walked over to the stereo, messed with the volume, and came to take my hand.
"Want to dance?"
I felt as if I was in a movie or a dream of some kind.
That smile on my face and warm sensation in my heart was not only familiar, but permanent.
